Manchester United Mason Mount transfer decision discussed by Gary Neville, who urges squad rebuild and identifies key summer signings

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has suggested that his former club should consider moving midfielder Mason Mount this summer, provided they can secure a more versatile replacement.

Speaking after Manchester United’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Liverpool on Sunday, Gary Neville also outlined what he believes should be the club’s key transfer priorities ahead of the new season.

Mason Mount transfer talk at Manchester United decision formed part of Neville’s wider assessment of the squad, as he called for a major summer rebuild to strengthen multiple areas of the team.

On his Sky Sports podcast, Neville said United urgently need reinforcements at left-back, centre-back, and in midfield, stressing that at least four major signings should be targeted.

He highlighted concerns over squad depth, particularly noting the physical demands placed on Luke Shaw, who he believes may struggle to maintain fitness across a full season.

Neville insisted that two new midfielders are essential, alongside defensive reinforcements, to restore balance and competitiveness in the squad.

He added that if the club can identify a flexible midfielder capable of operating both centrally and in advanced positions, then a possible departure for Mason Mount could be considered as part of broader squad restructuring.
