NCC review telecom regulations to keep pace with rapid tech change and improve user experience.

At a stakeholder forum in Abuja and online, the Nigerian Communications Commission unveiled its 2024 Regulatory Impact Assessment.

The study covers eight subsidiary rules on licensing, SIM registration, spectrum trading, enforcement and infrastructure sharing.

Dr Aminu Maida told operators, civil groups and policy experts that the review stands on three pillars: consumer benefit, market growth and national goals.

The consumer pillar aims for better quality of service. The market pillar checks barriers to entry and fair competition.

The government pillar aligns the rules with targets for digital inclusion and innovation.

Maida said, “This evaluation tests how agile our regulations are in driving competition and smart resource use.” He urged judges to place consumers at the centre of decisions.

The NCC invited written feedback on outdated clauses and fresh ideas for AI, 5G, IoT and new digital platforms. Inputs will guide final amendments later this year.

Maida closed by calling for frank dialogue.

The commission, he said, remains committed to clear, inclusive rules that safeguard users, attract investment and push Nigeria’s telecom sector forward.
