The Anambra NYSC coordinator, Mrs. Pauline Ojisua, expressed concern over erosion ravaging parts of the permanent orientation camp, while swearing in 1,626 Batch ‘A’ Stream II corps members and appealing for government intervention

The NYSC Anambra challenges were brought to the forefront by the State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Pauline Ojisua, who expressed significant worry over the erosion menace currently ravaging some parts of its permanent orientation camp in the state.

This concern was highlighted during her address at the swearing in and opening ceremony of the 2025 Batch “A” Stream Two orientation programme, held on Friday, June 13th, 2025, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation Camp, Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area of the State.

The coordinator also sought more adequate accommodation for camp officials, urging the state government and other concerned stakeholders to urgently intervene.

Mrs. Ojisua announced that a total of 1,626 corps members for the 2025 Batch “A” Stream Two have been officially sworn in for the orientation exercise in the State.

She noted that out of this number, 840 were males while 786 were females, all from approved tertiary institutions across the country.

In her address, she expressed joy and gratitude, welcoming all attendees to the ceremony and thanking esteemed guests for their presence, which she noted signifies their belief in the National Youth Service Corps scheme.

She emphasised to the corps members that the orientation course is not merely a few weeks of activities, but rather “the very foundation of your service year.”

The programme, she stated, is meticulously put together “to arm you with the skills, knowledge, and discipline you will need to not just survive, but truly thrive, during your time in Anambra State and beyond.”

She detailed that the coming weeks would involve diverse activities ranging from paramilitary drills and insightful lectures on national development to hands on skills acquisition and entrepreneurship training, complemented by numerous social activities.

Each component, she affirmed, is “carefully designed to ignite your patriotism, help you become more self reliant, and strengthen the bonds of our national unity.”

The coordinator reported to the Governor that 1,626 bright and promising corps members had been successfully registered for the stream, comprising 840 males and 786 females.

She assured that “all the necessary arrangements are in place to make the corps members stay on camp comfortable and productive,” observing that “the corps members are settling in beautifully, and their energy is infectious. They are eager to learn, grow, and contribute their part to the development of Anambra state.”

Mrs. Ojisua took a moment to acknowledge “truly incredible acts of generosity” witnessed, expressing profound gratitude to High Chief Christopher Ndubisi for his “amazing donation of 80 solar powered streetlights for our camp,” which has significantly improved security and visibility, especially at night.

A “huge round of applause” was also extended to the Golden 20 Group of Awgbu for constructing three comfortable corps lodges for corps members in the Awgbu Community, highlighting these as gestures that “speak volumes about their belief in the NYSC scheme and their commitment to the well being of our young people.”

She expressed immense thanks to the Anambra State Government for their “unwavering support for the NYSC scheme,” noting that their continuous assistance has been “absolutely vital to our operations and success.”

Deep gratitude was also extended to all collaborating agencies and stakeholders, including the Army, Police, NDLEA, DSS, NSCDC, Red Cross, Man O’ War, and Federal Fire Service, whose dedicated personnel ensure the smooth running of the programme and, crucially, the safety of the corps members.

While celebrating these achievements and the tremendous support received, Mrs. Ojisua also candidly addressed areas requiring further assistance.

“We are currently facing some environmental challenges, with erosion currently ravaging some parts of the Camp’s landscape,” she revealed. Additionally, there is a “need for more adequate accommodation for our camp officials,” including personnel from various agencies and NYSC staff.

She stressed that addressing these needs is “crucial for making sure everyone working tirelessly to ensure the success of the orientation course is as comfortable and efficient as possible,” humbly appealing to the State Government and other “kind hearted stakeholders” for support in this area.

To the corps members, Mrs. Ojisua urged them to “embrace every single moment of this orientation programme with an open mind and a can do attitude. Learn, connect, and prepare yourselves for a year of truly impactful service. Your contributions, no matter how big or small, have the power to make a real difference in the lives of the people you will serve.”

The State Governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo, represented by the State Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba, officially declared the orientation programme open.

He enjoined the corps members to integrate seamlessly into their host communities, respect local customs and traditions, be law abiding, and contribute positively to impact the lives of the people they will serve.

The oath taking ceremony was performed by the representative of the State Judge, Justice PMT Otti.
