FIFA fines Nigeria 1,000 CHF and DR Congo 5,000 CHF for spectator misconduct during 2026 World Cup play-off match

FIFA has found both the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Congolese Football Association (CFA) guilty of separate infractions during the 2026 World Cup play-off match held in November 2025.

According to Sports Village Square, Nigeria was penalised for breaches relating to order and security, specifically involving the throwing of objects by spectators.

The NFF has been fined 1,000 Swiss Francs.

The Congolese Football Association received a heavier sanction after their fans used laser pointers and similar electronic devices during the match, contravening Article 17.2.d of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.

The CFA was fined 5,000 Swiss Francs.
