NLNG journalism workshop equips over 40 reporters with AI, digital tools, and storytelling skills to enhance reporting quality

The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) trained over 40 journalists from print, broadcast, and digital media during its “Change Your Story” workshop, held between March 11 and 13, 2026, in Lagos.

The initiative aimed to strengthen reporting skills and enhance media credibility in the digital era.

The workshop, themed “Re-calibrate, Create, Connect,” focused on artificial intelligence in journalism, data visualisation, digital storytelling, and strategies to combat misinformation.

NLNG’s General Manager for External Relations and Sustainable Development, Dr. Sophia Horsfall, encouraged participants to apply the insights to improve the depth and accuracy of their reporting.

“NLNG views this engagement as a strategic partnership. You provide the information that powers minds, and we provide the energy that powers nations. We hope to see this workshop reflected in your next investigative report,” Horsfall said.

The intensive programme combined expert-led sessions with practical exercises.

Digital communication specialist Mr. Dan Mason guided participants through digital storytelling techniques, while media trainer Taiwo Obe facilitated a journalism clinic focused on newsroom practices and narrative skills.

Mason highlighted the vibrancy of the Nigerian media landscape, noting the enthusiasm and potential of young journalists in embracing new digital tools.

Participants examined the evolving role of technology in journalism, exploring how AI and real-time reporting can enhance audience engagement across platforms.

The workshop also emphasised the importance of credibility, ethical reporting, and adapting traditional skills to the digital environment.

Since its inception in 2014, the “Change Your Story” initiative has trained approximately 400 journalists across Nigeria.

The programme continues to strengthen professional capacity in the media industry, equipping reporters with the expertise needed to navigate a rapidly changing landscape while maintaining high standards of journalism.
