Ogun police probe baby assault after alleged incident at private school, with case transferred to SCID Gender Unit for investigation

The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged indecent assault of an eight-month-old baby at a private school in the state.

The incident, according to the child’s mother, Gloria Umukoro, occurred on 18 March at the school where she is employed.

Umukoro said the school had closed early for revision week, after which she remained on the premises to complete examination preparations.

She explained that the baby had been left in the care of the school principal before being briefly handled by the school director, identified as Korede Afuye.

She stated that shortly after the child was returned, she observed signs of distress and later discovered injuries, prompting immediate concern.

A colleague with medical training reportedly examined the baby and advised that urgent attention was required.

Umukoro alleged that the director was the last person to handle the child before the injuries were noticed, adding that she confronted him and demanded an explanation.

She said the school management urged caution, but she insisted on escalating the matter.

“This is not something that can be resolved informally, considering my baby’s condition,” she said.

The case was subsequently reported to the police for investigation.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command said the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, specifically the Gender Unit, for detailed inquiry.

“A case involving an infant was reported on March 18. The matter has been referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Gender Unit, for further investigation.

The identity of the child is being protected,” the police spokesperson said.

Authorities added that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, as officials seek to establish accountability and ensure justice.
