Ogun truck crash kills six at old Sango Toll Gate on Lagos–Abeokuta expressway, leaving three injured, TRACE confirms

At least six people were killed and three others injured on Tuesday, 18 February 2026, when a speeding truck ploughed into multiple vehicles at the old Sango Toll Gate along the Lagos–Abeokuta expressway in Ogun State.

The fatal collision, which occurred in the early hours of the day, involved a Mack tanker truck bearing registration number EKY 913 YH.

The vehicle, described as having a white cab and green body, was reportedly descending Ilo Awela Road at high speed when it rammed into several vehicles, including motorcycles, minibuses, a tricycle and pedestrians.

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency confirmed the casualties, stating that nine persons were involved in the crash, including two women.

According to the agency, five men and one woman were crushed to death, while three others sustained injuries. Most of the deceased were said to be commercial motorcyclists and traders operating around the toll gate area.

TRACE officials attributed the crash to excessive speed and reckless driving. The agency said the truck driver, travelling from Ota towards Lagos, lost control before colliding with vehicles and road users along the busy corridor.

However, operatives of TRACE, alongside personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, swiftly intervened to manage the scene and restore normal traffic.

All vehicles involved in the crash were cleared from the roadway and moved to a police facility, while the injured victims were taken to the State Hospital in Ota for treatment.

The bodies of the deceased were deposited at the State Hospital morgue in Ifo.
