Suspected gunmen abduct a woman and injure three others in Ondo’s Ilu Abo community amid intensified police and military operations

Suspected gunmen abducted a woman identified as Oladeinde Tomilola and injured three others during a violent attack on Ilu Abo community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The incident occurred on Sunday at about 8 pm along Liberty Avenue, Iluabo, when six armed men reportedly stormed the neighbourhood and opened fire on residents.

An eyewitness said the assailants targeted a vehicle at the entrance of a residence, shooting at its fuel tank and tyres to force it to a stop.

John Ofuduwa, who was driving a Toyota Camry with Abuja registration number GWA 674 CM into his residence, sustained a gunshot injury during the attack.

Two other individuals Victoria and her 11-year-old daughter, Victoria Olorunfemi also suffered varying degrees of injuries from the gunfire.

All victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, while residents fled their homes amid fears of further violence.

The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the attack, stating that Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, visited the scene to reassure residents and assess the situation.

CP Lawal condemned the attack and disclosed that additional tactical and intelligence-driven measures had been deployed to arrest the perpetrators and prevent a recurrence.

The Oluabo of Iluabo, Oba Samuel Oluyemi Falae, also condemned the attack and pledged the palace’s support in assisting security agencies.

He confirmed that community vigilante groups would be mobilised to complement police efforts.

Brigadier-General Justin Ifeanyi, Commander of the 32 Brigade Artillery of the Nigerian Army, joined the security assessment and assured residents of military support in tracking the attackers and rescuing the abducted woman.

Authorities urged members of the public to provide credible information that could aid investigations.

Efforts are ongoing in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services, and other security agencies to rescue Oladeinde Tomilola and bring the assailants to justice.
