Osimhen Galatasaray title confidence remains strong after a 4-1 defeat to Samsunspor delays the club’s Süper Lig title celebrations

Victor Osimhen has insisted that Galatasaray S.K. remain firmly on course to win the Turkish Süper Lig title, despite suffering a surprising 4-1 defeat to Samsunspor on Saturday that delayed their championship celebrations.

The Osimhen Galatasaray title confidence remarks came after the Istanbul giants failed to secure the title at the Samsun 19 Mayıs Stadyumu, where they were widely expected to complete the job following a key derby victory over rivals Fenerbahçe S.K. earlier in the week.

Galatasaray initially looked set for a routine evening when Osimhen provided an assist for Yunus Akgün to open the scoring, but momentum quickly shifted as Samsunspor responded through Marius Mouandilmadji before taking full control of the contest.

The turning point came after Galatasaray goalkeeper Günay Güvenç was sent off in the second half, leaving the visitors exposed as Samsunspor capitalised ruthlessly. Mouandilmadji struck again, while Cherif Ndiaye added a brace to complete a commanding and emphatic victory.

Despite the setback, Victor Osimhen struck an optimistic tone after the match, acknowledging the team’s poor performance while reaffirming belief that the title will be secured at home.

“We knew it wouldn’t be easy,” Osimhen said, expressing disappointment but maintaining confidence that Galatasaray would respond in their next fixture against Antalyaspor at RAMS Park.

The Nigerian striker, who has been a key figure in Galatasaray’s campaign, has now recorded 13 league goals and five assists in 21 Süper Lig appearances, alongside strong contributions in European competition.

While the defeat has added tension to the title race, Galatasaray still remain in a strong position, needing a positive result in their final home matches to confirm the championship.
