Council chairman Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN) led the commendation during an inspection of the ongoing 110-kilometre Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road project in Ibadan on Wednesday.

Speaking to journalists after the visit, Ayorinde expressed strong satisfaction with the project’s progress.

In a statement released in Ibadan by the Special Adviser on Media to Governor Makinde, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the council chairman described the quality and pace of the work as excellent and impactful.

According to Ayorinde, “This is a legacy project poised to ease traffic congestion within the Ibadan metropolis, stimulate economic growth, and open up the corridor for real estate development and hospitality businesses. The project will also become an arterial road that will connect the state to other states in the country.”

He added that the Circular Road is being delivered with speed and precision.

The infrastructure, which spans multiple local government areas including Oluyole, Ona-Ara and Egbeda, is expected to transform movement in and around Ibadan.

“We can see that work is going at a very intense pace on this Circular Road, and it is quite commendable. It is one thing to have content and another thing to deliver. We are very satisfied that this road will be delivered on time. The level of the work is very good,” Ayorinde stated.

The project is regarded as one of the most ambitious road developments in the region.

It was originally conceived under previous administrations but is now being actualised under Governor Makinde.

According to observers, the current administration has shown serious commitment to infrastructure as a key component of economic policy.

“As we speak, the project has opened up a new town. Also, it will decongest traffic in Ibadan. Most people travelling through Ibadan would not have to enter the city if they have nothing to do there. So, it is an economic impetus,” Ayorinde noted.

He urged citizens of Oyo State to take ownership of the project once completed. According to him, the sustainability and long-term impact of such projects depend on community cooperation and responsible use.

“The government has delivered for the people, and the people should own this project and ensure that it remains a super highway that is looked after,” he added.

The council’s inspection was led through key sections of the project by the state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mojeed Mogbojubola.

The team began at the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and proceeded through other project points in Oluyole, Ona-Ara and Egbeda.

Other members of the Advisory Council present during the inspection include Babatunde Oduyoye, Bashir Ajibade, Adewale Atande, Abiola Ajaja, Aderemi Ayodele, Akinade Alamu, and Rasak Gbadegesin.

Makinde’s administration has been widely recognised for its investment in physical infrastructure as a means of stimulating growth.

With the Circular Road nearing key construction milestones, hopes are high that the impact will be far-reaching.

The ongoing development aligns with the governor’s broader economic agenda for Oyo State.

Once completed, the Circular Road is expected to reduce pressure on inner-city roads and improve logistics for goods and services moving through the region.

The project is also expected to spark commercial development across its corridor, particularly in real estate and tourism.

This is seen as a key driver of local employment and private sector investment.

With continued monitoring and execution, the Circular Road is on course to become one of the most important public works in Oyo State’s modern history.

Michael Carrick admits Man United have fallen below expectations after a poor run of results, urging players to restore the club’s identity

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has admitted that the club have fallen below expectations following a disappointing run of results, insisting that his players must rediscover the values and identity that have defined the Premier League side.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, October 23, 2026, ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Bournemouth at Old Trafford, Carrick described the team’s recent performances as unacceptable and called for a collective effort to restore confidence.

The manager was particularly critical of Wednesday’s 4-1 Champions League defeat by Como, which he said had been painful to witness.

“Recently we haven’t had a good time, I think that’s pretty obvious,” Carrick said, according to BBC Sport.

“Wednesday was a bad night, and it hurt me to see us play like that. It was unacceptable.”

United’s struggles have intensified scrutiny of Carrick, with the team enduring a run of seven games without a victory.

Reports of tensions and criticism within the squad have added to the pressure ahead of the Bournemouth fixture.

The former United midfielder said his priority was to ensure the team performed in a way that reflected the club’s traditions and gave supporters reason to be proud.

“My responsibility is to get a team on the pitch that represents this football club, and the supporters, and they can be proud of in the identity we show,” he said.

“We have gone away from that recently. We all must recognise that.”

Carrick stressed that Manchester United’s history should serve as a reminder of the standards expected from players and staff, particularly during difficult periods.

He highlighted resilience, humility and hard work as essential qualities, warning that the club could not afford to abandon those principles amid its current struggles.

“The foundation and values of this football club have been etched for many years. I totally understand and get every single one of them,” he said.

“There’s a resilience about this football club that runs very deep. I’ve seen it with my own eyes, I’ve felt it, I know some of the individuals closely who have been a big part of that history.”

Carrick also rejected any suggestion that the club’s reputation should entitle its players to special treatment.

“Entitlement cannot be at this football club,” he said.

“It was based on being humble, having humility, and hard work. We can never lose that, and I won’t let us lose that.”

Carrick also declined to rule out leaving captain Bruno Fernandes out of the starting line-up against Bournemouth when asked whether he had considered dropping the Portuguese midfielder.

Fernandes has reportedly criticised Carrick’s tactics following the defeat in Italy, adding another dimension to the scrutiny surrounding the team.

However, Carrick said decisions would be guided by what he believed was best for the club rather than individual considerations.

“The most important thing for me is the team, the squad and dynamics in the squad,” he said.

“It’s about the football club. I’ll always do what is best for the football club.”

His comments suggest that team selection will be based on collective performance and squad dynamics as United seek to arrest their poor run.
