The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, made this known at a press briefing ahead of the three-day event scheduled for August 22–24.

He said the tournament aligns with Governor Seyi Makinde’s Omituntun 2.0 agenda, which prioritizes tourism, security, and infrastructure as key economic drivers.

“Sports events like this are not just competitions—they drive hotel bookings, visits to tourist sites, and restaurant patronage. Golf is tourism in motion,” Olatubosun stated.

Olatubosun praised the event’s organiser, Folarin Laosun, describing him as a consistent partner in promoting culture and tourism.

He cited Laosun’s role in the recent World Egungun Festival as proof of his commitment to the sector.

“We’ll support anything that grows tourism,” he said. “This event will bring people to Ibadan, allow them to explore our roads, security architecture, and what Governor Makinde is building.”

The commissioner noted that Oyo’s appeal is rising because of sustained improvements in security and infrastructure.

With the upgrading of the Ladoke Akintola Airport, he said, the state can now accommodate more national and international visitors, making it a fertile ground for tourism and investment.

Tournament initiator Folarin Laosun hinted at plans to expand his operations into Oyo by setting up a factory or assembly plant, citing the state’s investment-friendly environment.

“Oyo is a fertile ground for industry. We’re excited to contribute more,” he added.

Now in its fourth year, the Oluyole Golf Tournament has grown from a one-day event into a full-fledged open tournament featuring amateur players across two days.

This year’s edition will host 120 to 150 participants from across Nigeria.
