The confirmation came on Monday during the party’s 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

This decision ends more than a year of Damagum’s stewardship in an acting capacity, following the suspension of former chairman Iyorchia Ayu in March 2023 amid internal party crises and legal disputes after the general elections.

Damagum, who was previously the PDP’s Deputy National Chairman (North), formally assumed his new position after the party’s National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, administered the oath of office.

With this transition, Damagum will now lead the PDP into its upcoming National Elective Convention scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The development marks a significant moment for the party as it consolidates leadership ahead of critical political activities.
