Oyo court adjourns PDP convention case till Wednesday as Justice Akintola directs parties to file all processes and follow the party’s timetable

An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has once again adjourned the hearing of a motion on notice in a suit filed by Folahan Adelabi against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), its Acting National Chairman, and other defendants.

The case, presided over by Justice Ladiran Akintola, was adjourned till Wednesday, following Monday’s proceedings in which the judge urged all parties to ensure the proper filing of necessary court documents for an effective hearing.

Last week, Justice Akintola had ruled on an ex parte motion permitting the PDP to proceed with its planned national convention, while setting November 10, 2025, for the hearing of the substantive motion on notice.

The claimant, Adelabi, is seeking a court order restraining the defendants — Acting PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagum; Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State (on behalf of the Convention Organising Committee); and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) — from frustrating or truncating the conduct of the party’s convention.

During Monday’s sitting, Justice Akintola directed that both parties file all necessary processes before the next date and further instructed the PDP leadership to strictly adhere to its guidelines, timetable, and schedule for the convention.

“The parties should file all processes for the effective take-off of the case,” the judge said.

Meanwhile, journalists were barred from entering the courtroom to cover the proceedings, as security operatives were stationed at the court entrance to prevent media access.

The matter will resume on Wednesday for the hearing of all pending applications.
