Agege LG chairman, Hon. Tunde Azeez Disco, resigns over health issues; AbdulGaniyu Vinod Obasa sworn in as substantive chairman

The elected Chairman of Agege Local Government, Hon. Tunde Azeez (Disco), has resigned from office, citing health challenges that have hindered his ability to perform his official duties effectively.

Azeez, who officially tendered his resignation letter to the Agege Legislative Council on Wednesday, said his decision was in the best interest of the council and the people of Agege.

Following his resignation, the Leader of the House, Hon. Adeshina Haruna, administered the oath of office to Hon. AbdulGaniyu Vinod Obasa, son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, as the new substantive chairman.

Speaking at the ceremony, Haruna commended the outgoing chairman for his service and dedication to grassroots development.

“I commend Hon. Disco for his years of selfless service and commitment to the people of Agege. I wish him full recovery and success in his future endeavors,” he said.

He added that the council’s decision to confirm Obasa as the substantive chairman was aimed at ensuring stability, continuity, and effective local governance.

“Following this development, the council unanimously approved the appointment of Hon. AbdulGaniyu Vinod Obasa as the substantive Chairman of Agege Local Government,” Haruna announced.

The council also reaffirmed its oversight role, pledging to enhance monitoring and evaluation of ongoing projects and strengthen accountability measures to ensure timely and transparent delivery of community development initiatives.

Reacting to the development, Hon. Rotimi Sulaiman, an aide to the former Agege LG chairman, High Chief AbdulGaniyu Egunjobi, praised Azeez for prioritising his health.

“Hon. Tunde Azeez has been sick for a while, and his decision to resign and focus on his health rather than cling to office is a wise one,” he said.

He also described the new chairman, AbdulGaniyu Vinod Obasa, as a visionary young leader who has demonstrated strong leadership during Azeez’s absence in recent months.
