PDP Board of Trustees rejects Ibadan High Court ruling, affirming Turaki-led NWC remains in place as the matter awaits Court of Appeal decision

The Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party has dismissed the Federal High Court ruling in Ibadan on the party’s November 2025 national convention as academic and without practical effect.

The statement, issued on Friday and signed by Senator Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, noted that the judgment does not impact the status of the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee.

The BoT emphasised that the substantive issues are currently before the Court of Appeal.

“The Board of Trustees notes that the judgment is technically of no effect and at best, academic as the central and fundamental issues in the matter are already before the Court of Appeal,” the statement read.

The trustees also expressed concern that the court granted reliefs that were not requested by any of the parties.

“It is however a matter of concern that the court, in declining the order of mandamus sought by our party… went beyond the boundaries to grant reliefs that were not prayed by any of the parties in the case,” the BoT said.

The party has filed a Notice of Appeal and a Motion for Stay of Execution, effectively placing the judgment in abeyance.

According to the statement, this ensures the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee, elected at the Ibadan convention, remains legally and firmly in place.

“The Turaki-led NWC is securely in place,” Wabara assured party members and supporters, describing the BoT as the conscience and second highest organ of the party.

The trustees reaffirmed their backing for the current leadership, emphasising its role in stabilising and repositioning the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The Board reaffirms its commitment and support for the Turaki-led NWC in its efforts to stabilise and strengthen the party on the path of victory ahead of the 2027 general elections,” the statement concluded.

The Ibadan Federal High Court had earlier voided the PDP national convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, restraining Turaki and others from presenting themselves as national officers of the party.

Reacting to the ruling, Turaki described the judgment as academic, conflicting with existing orders of courts of coordinate jurisdiction, and stressed that the NWC remains legally intact pending the appellate court’s final determination.
