The 26-year-old’s previous contract was due to expire next summer, but the new agreement secures the future of one of City’s most influential players as the Premier League champions prepare for the seasons ahead.

The contract extension comes after the midfielder established himself as a central figure in the club’s success, having progressed through the academy before making his senior debut and winning multiple domestic honours.

Speaking after signing the new deal, Foden described the agreement as a special moment in his career.

“Committing my future to City means everything to me,” Foden said.

“Playing for this Club is all I’ve ever wanted to do, and it’s always an honour to wear the shirt.

“It’s not lost on me that I’ve been lucky enough to be part of a historic period with so many titles won, but we’re always looking to the future and trying to win more.”

The midfielder also thanked the club, coaching staff, teammates and supporters for their continued faith in him.

“I can only thank the Club, staff, team-mates and fans who continue to put their faith in me and trust that I give everything I can for City, and I hope I’ll be able to repay you for years to come,” he added.

Foden also welcomed the opportunity to work again with Enzo Maresca, praising the Italian coach’s influence during Manchester City’s historic Treble-winning campaign.

“I can’t wait to work with Enzo again. He was brilliant during the Treble season, someone all the players respected and loved working with. To have him back here is exciting,” he said.

The contract extension follows a challenging period for Foden at international level after England head coach Thomas Tuchel omitted him from the squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Tuchel attributed the decision to form, tactical considerations and squad balance rather than injury, having previously suggested that Foden had struggled to translate his performances in training into competitive matches.

Despite that setback, Manchester City’s decision to hand Foden a long-term contract underlines the club’s confidence in his quality and his importance to its future ambitions.
