The Argentine coach will continue leading the United States after guiding the co-hosts to the 2026 World Cup last 16

Mauricio Pochettino has secured a new contract to remain head coach of the United States men’s national team until 2030, with U.S. Soccer extending the Argentine coach’s tenure after he guided the co-hosts to the last 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

U.S. Soccer announced the agreement on Monday, with details of the Pochettino USMNT Deal released as the federation looks to build on what it considers a promising start under the former Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea manager.

Pochettino’s previous contract was due to expire after the 2026 World Cup, but the new agreement will keep him in charge as the United States prepares for the next cycle and seeks to establish itself as a stronger force in international football.

U.S. Soccer Chief Executive Officer and Secretary General JT Batson said the extension reflected the federation’s long-term ambitions for the men’s national team and the wider development of the sport.

“Mauricio and his staff believe in the future of soccer in the United States and our new project allows us to build on progress of the USMNT and the momentum of U.S. Soccer,” Batson said.

“We know we have a lot of work to do to achieve our clear ambitions, including competing to win Men’s World Cups and having soccer become the most played sport in every community.”

Pochettino’s first major tournament with the United States produced several notable milestones, including a 4-1 victory over Paraguay that saw the team score four goals in a World Cup match.

The Americans also recorded multiple group-stage victories for the first time since the inaugural World Cup in 1930 and collected a record six points during the group phase.

Their campaign ultimately ended with a 4-1 defeat to Belgium in the Round of 16, but the tournament offered encouraging signs for a team seeking to build greater consistency on the international stage.

The new Pochettino USMNT Deal will see the coach continue working with emerging players such as Folarin Balogun, Alex Freeman and Malik Tillman while overseeing the development of the next generation of American talent.

Pochettino said his coaching staff had become convinced of the country’s potential during their time working within the US football system.

“Working together with U.S. Soccer over the past two years, it has become clear to us that there is tremendous potential to make the Men’s National Team program even stronger,” he said.

The Argentine coach also pointed to the support generated by the 2026 World Cup as a source of optimism for the future.

“The passion we experienced from the fans throughout the World Cup only strengthened our belief in what is possible here,” Pochettino said.

He added that he wanted his tenure to leave a lasting impact that extended beyond the team’s results.

“We want to try to have a lasting impact on the sport in the country that has welcomed us so warmly and for that impact to extend beyond results on the field,” he said.

Pochettino’s next competitive challenge will come in the 2026-27 Concacaf Nations League, which begins in September, before the United States turns its attention to the 2027 Concacaf Gold Cup.

The longer-term objective will be to use the coming years to strengthen the national team structure, develop emerging players and build on the momentum generated by hosting the 2026 World Cup.

With the Pochettino USMNT Deal now secured through 2030, the former Premier League and Ligue 1 title-winning coach has a clear mandate to shape the United States team for the next World Cup cycle and help turn growing domestic interest in football into sustained international success.
