Samuel Chukwueze’s representatives explore Spanish transfer options as AC Milan weigh the Nigerian winger’s future under Ruben Amorim

Nigeria international Samuel Chukwueze is weighing a pivotal career decision as his representatives intensify efforts to secure a Chukwueze La Liga Return before the summer transfer window closes, even as AC Milan manager Ruben Amorim continues to back the winger’s role in his squad.

The 27-year-old has returned to the San Siro after spending the 2025/26 season on loan at Premier League side Fulham, where he produced encouraging performances but was unable to convince the London club to trigger the option for a permanent transfer.

Back in Milan, Chukwueze has featured regularly during pre-season and remains eager to establish himself under Amorim. However, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes, his representatives have simultaneously begun sounding out opportunities in Spain, the country where he produced the finest football of his professional career.

The report claims that several La Liga clubs have been approached, with Real Betis and Celta Vigo among the clubs that have maintained long-standing interest in the Super Eagles winger.

AC Milan are understood to be open to offers but are reluctant to sanction a cut-price departure.

The Serie A club reportedly favour a permanent transfer and expect interested clubs to meet their valuation, a stance that could complicate negotiations during the closing weeks of the transfer window.

Despite the speculation, Amorim has publicly expressed his appreciation for Chukwueze’s qualities, particularly his ability to unsettle defenders in one-on-one situations.

“There are some players who weren’t here last year. Chukwueze is staying with us; we need players who can play one-on-one,” Amorim said, according to SempreMilan.

The endorsement reflects the Portuguese coach’s desire to retain attacking players capable of stretching opposition defences, although Milan’s willingness to entertain suitable offers leaves the Nigerian’s future far from settled.

A return to Spain would represent a homecoming of sorts for Chukwueze.

The winger spent six seasons with Villarreal CF, developing into one of La Liga’s most exciting wide players. During his time with the Yellow Submarine, he made 207 senior appearances in all competitions, scored 37 goals and earned a reputation for explosive pace and direct attacking play.

In La Liga alone, Chukwueze featured 155 times, contributing 21 goals and 14 assists while consistently ranking among Villarreal’s most influential attackers.

His defining moment came during the 2020/21 season under Unai Emery, when Villarreal lifted the UEFA Europa League for the first time in the club’s history after defeating Manchester United F.C. in a dramatic penalty shootout in Gdańsk.

That success cemented Chukwueze’s status as one of Nigeria’s leading exports to European football and ultimately earned him his move to Milan.

With the transfer window entering its decisive phase, the coming weeks are expected to determine whether Chukwueze continues competing for a regular place under Amorim or embraces a promising return to the league where he established his reputation.
