Chukwueze joins AC Milan’s pre-season squad under Ruben Amorim as the Nigerian winger looks to secure his future at the Italian club

Nigeria international winger Samuel Chukwueze has been included in AC Milan’s 26-man pre-season squad as new head coach Ruben Amorim begins preparations for the 2026/27 season at the club’s Milanello training centre.

The 27-year-old returned to Milan after a loan spell and has been handed an opportunity to impress Amorim, who will assess his players before deciding on potential arrivals and departures ahead of the new campaign.

Chukwueze’s inclusion comes at a crucial stage in his Milan career, with questions previously raised over his long-term future at San Siro after limited opportunities under previous management.

The Portuguese coach is believed to appreciate the winger’s pace, creativity and ability to challenge defenders in one-on-one situations, qualities that could help him earn a more important role in Milan’s attacking plans.

“There are some players who weren’t here last year. Chukwueze is staying with us; we need players who can play one-on-one,” Amorim said, according to SempreMilan.

The Nigerian joined Milan from Villarreal in 2023 but has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter. His return from loan now provides a fresh opportunity to convince the new coaching staff that he can contribute consistently at the highest level.

Chukwueze is among several players being assessed during the opening stage of pre-season. Fellow returning loanees Francesco Camarda and Yunus Musah will also aim to impress Amorim, while new signing Mario Gila has been included after completing his move from Lazio.

Young prospects including Aurelien Guernier, recently signed from Birmingham City, striker Andrej Kostic and midfielder Christian Comotto are also part of the squad as Milan evaluate their options ahead of the new season.

Portugal forward Goncalo Ramos is yet to join the group as he remains on holiday following his country’s involvement at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Meanwhile, midfielder Kevin Zeroli has been left out after ending last season with Juve Stabia in the Serie B promotion play-offs and is expected to depart permanently. Warren Bondo is also not included in Amorim’s plans and will train separately while seeking a new club.

For Chukwueze, the pre-season period represents an important chance to revive his Milan career and prove he can become a valuable part of Amorim’s plans.
