Real Madrid fans were left in disbelief at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday as Manchester City overturned an early deficit to secure a Champions League group-stage victory.

Rodrygo put Madrid ahead in the 28th minute, finishing a sharp counterattack after City’s defence appeared stretched. For the first half hour, the hosts dominated every break, creating multiple chances and testing the visitors’ composure.

From that point, Real struggled to regain control. Despite ending the match with 16 shots, only one was on target as City dictated the tempo.

Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma remained largely untested, allowing City to maintain composure and control throughout.

O’Reilly, named Player of the Match, acknowledged his partial responsibility for Madrid’s opening goal but expressed delight at the team’s comeback.

The Bernabéu crowd responded with whistles rather than full boos at full-time, reflecting disappointment but not outright outrage.

The defeat marks Real Madrid’s second consecutive home loss, raising questions over manager Xabi Alonso’s direction after just two wins in nine matches.
