Ronaldo expresses confidence and fitness ahead of World Cup 2026, saying Portugal are prepared for a strong tournament in the United States

Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal captain, on Friday, June 12, 2026, in Lisbon, Portugal, expressed strong optimism ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 as he travelled with the national team to their base camp in Palm Beach, Florida, highlighting his confidence and physical readiness ahead of the tournament.

The remarks came as the 41-year-old forward prepared for what will be a record sixth World Cup appearance, reaffirming his belief that Portugal can mount a strong challenge in the competition hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Speaking before departure, Ronaldo said the team had undergone intense preparations and insisted he remained in good physical condition despite the demanding training schedule.

“We’re approaching this competition with a lot of hope,” he said.

“The preparation has been very good, tiring, because we have worked hard. I am very positive, I believe things will go well and that we will put in a good performance.”

Ronaldo World Cup message also included praise for the current squad, which he described as a promising generation capable of bringing pride to Portuguese supporters.

“It’s a very good generation… which will bring a lot of joy to the Portuguese people,” he added.

Ronaldo stressed the importance of starting strongly in the group stage, noting that early results would be key to building momentum in the tournament.

“The most important thing is to start well, with the first match, then follow up with the second and third… finish top of the group and from there, take it one match at a time,” he said.

Portugal will begin their World Cup campaign on June 17 in Houston against the Democratic Republic of Congo before facing Uzbekistan and Colombia in Group K.

Concerns have been raised in some quarters about Ronaldo’s continued involvement at the highest level, but the veteran forward dismissed doubts by insisting he remains physically prepared to contribute effectively.

Portugal finished third at the 1966 World Cup and reached the quarter-finals at the 2022 tournament in Qatar, with expectations now building around Roberto Martinez’s squad as they head into the 2026 edition.
