Senator Natasha Akpoti mourns the passing of her colleague, Senator Okey Ezea, praising his principled leadership and dedication to Enugu North

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has expressed profound sorrow over the death of her Senate colleague, Senator Okey Ezea, who represented Enugu North Senatorial District and passed away after a brief illness in Lagos on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

Describing the late Labour Party lawmaker as “a good man—wise, gentle, and deeply supportive,” Senator Natasha praised Ezea’s sincerity, humility, and unwavering commitment to national duty.

She recalled his stabilising presence during challenging moments in the Senate.

“Rest in peace, Distinguished Senator Okey Ezea. Your prayers kept me going through my darkest moments, and I will miss you in chambers,” she wrote.

She highlighted his reputation as a bridge-builder who never bore grudges, earning respect across party, ethnic, and religious lines for his calm temperament and principled leadership.

The Ezea family announced his passing in a statement signed by his son, Jideofor. “With profound grief, the family of Distinguished Senator Okey Ezea, who represented Enugu North District in the 10th Senate, announces his passing. The Senator died at a private hospital in Lagos at about 11:07 p.m. on Tuesday, 18th November, 2025, after a brief illness,” it read.

Until his passing, Senator Ezea was the only Labour Party lawmaker from Enugu State who resisted pressure to defect, earning admiration for his forthright contributions on national issues, advocacy for equity, and dedication to his constituents.

His soft-spoken but impactful interventions in plenary sessions, principled leadership, and steadfast public service have left a significant void in the Senate. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family and the National Assembly.
