Super Falcons to compete in WAFU B Four-Nation Tournament in Abidjan as preparation for 2026 WAFCON in Morocco

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed the Super Falcons’ participation in the WAFU B Four-Nation Tournament in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, as part of preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

The preparatory tournament will run from February 27 to March 7, ahead of WAFCON scheduled for March 17 to April 3.

NFF Director of Competitions, Ruth David, described the mini-tournament as a crucial step to ensure the reigning African champions are fully ready for the continental showpiece.

The WAFU B Secretariat has invited Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, and Senegal— all WAFCON participants—for the competition.

Head coach Justin Madugu’s squad list will be announced through official channels in the coming days.

In related news, five Super Falcons players have been nominated to the IFFHS Women’s Africa XI for 2025.

Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defenders Michelle Alozie and Ashleigh Plumptre, and midfielders Christy Ucheibe and Rasheedat Ajibade were recognised for their exceptional performances at club and international levels.

Nnadozie has been lauded for her consistency and authority between the posts, while Alozie and Plumptre anchor a dependable defence.

Ucheibe and Ajibade provide energy, balance, and creativity in midfield.

Other stars in the XI include Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak, Zambia’s Barbra Banda, and Malawi’s Temwa Chawinga.

The IFFHS noted that the selection is based on current form, consistency, and statistical analysis rather than retrospective awards, underscoring Nigeria’s continued dominance in African women’s football.
