Remo Stars dropped points again as they drew 1–1 with bottom-placed Kun Khalifat in Ibadan, leaving their title defence under threat

Remo Stars’ faltering title defence suffered another setback as they were held to a 1–1 draw by bottom-placed Kun Khalifat in Ibadan on Monday, offering a rare morale boost for the visitors in their relegation fight.

The match, staged at Lekan Salami Stadium after Remo Stars were banished from their Ikenne home due to fan violence, began dramatically.

Kun Khalifat stunned the champions in the sixth minute when Oghenetega Ebetomame rose highest to head the visitors into an early lead, leaving the Sky Blues Stars chasing the game from the start.

Despite the early setback, Remo Stars created several chances in the first half.

Michael Ibe’s free kick narrowly missed, while Albert Korvah’s effort was deflected and comfortably saved by Khalifat goalkeeper Goita. The first half ended 1–0 in favour of the visitors.

In the second half, Remo Stars continued to press for an equaliser.

Victor Mbaoma tested Goita with a header in the 53rd minute, and Fabian Nworie narrowly missed from a corner in the 67th.

The breakthrough came in the 79th minute when Ahmed Akinyele unleashed a long-range strike that restored parity, sending the home fans into celebration.

The remainder of the match saw further attempts from Remo Stars, including a stoppage-time curler from Samuel Anakwe that struck the post.

The game ended 1–1, a point that offers little relief for the champions amid their precarious league position.

The result leaves Remo Stars 16th on the league table with 26 points, just one place above the relegation zone, having failed to win 14 of their 22 league fixtures and suffered 12 losses.

Their struggles have been compounded by the enforced relocation to Ibadan following fan misconduct in their first home game against Ikorodu City, which led to a N7 million fine and the requirement to play remaining home games away from Ikenne.

For Kun Khalifat, the draw provides a small but vital boost in confidence as they remain at the foot of the table in their debut NPFL season, continuing their fight to avoid relegation.
