Taraba Boarding Schools Shutdown as Governor orders all hostels closed, citing rising insecurity and recent abductions across Nigeria

Amid growing security concerns across Nigeria, Taraba State Governor Dr Agbu Kefas has ordered all public and private secondary schools in the state to close their hostels and operate strictly as day schools until further notice.

The directive was announced by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr Augustina Godwin, following an assessment that boarding facilities have become increasingly vulnerable to attacks, particularly after recent abductions in Kebbi and Niger States.

Dr Godwin explained that the measure is a precaution, as criminal groups now appear to be targeting residential school facilities.

“In view of the current insecurity across the country, His Excellency has directed that boarding activities be suspended in every secondary school in Taraba State with immediate effect,” she said.

She added, “All principals and proprietors are therefore instructed to ensure that their students return home without delay.”
