Team Ekiti Asaba 2025 Youth Games gold in basketball, discus, and more cements their rise among Nigeria’s top-performing youth teams

Team Ekiti Asaba 2025 journey continues to impress, as the squad clinched Gold in male basketball on Thursday at the National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.

In a gripping final match, Team Ekiti edged out Team Lagos 19–18, showcasing not only skill but exceptional composure under pressure.

Both teams brought intensity to the court, but Ekiti’s squad showed greater resilience to secure the narrow victory.

“I am happy God crowned our efforts with success,” said State Basketball Coach, Adetayo Awojinrin, reflecting on the hard-fought win.

“Despite tough matches during the group stage, we managed to defeat Lagos in the final. I’m proud of the team and believe this will inspire them to win more gold medals.”

Team Ekiti’s success wasn’t limited to basketball.

In Kungfu, Funbi Adedoyin fought valiantly to earn bronze in the 48kg female category. According to Head Coach Ronke Raji, Adedoyin’s performance was a testament to her grit and determination despite tough competition.

Their Para athlete, Suleiman Abdulazeez, also made headlines by capturing Gold in Discus and Silver in Shot Put, further boosting the team’s overall medal count.

Recognising their standout efforts, three athletes—Abdulazeez Suleiman (Para Athletics), Precious Ayodele (Ayo Olopon), and Damilola Oni (Cricket)—have been invited to the National Federation for their exceptional performances.

With these results, Team Ekiti now holds two gold, three silver, and three bronze medals, solidifying their position among the top-performing teams at the Asaba 2025 Youth Games.
