The United Bank for Africa officially launched the latest edition of the savings campaign during a press conference held at its Lagos headquarters on Friday.

The event was attended by top executives, including the Group Deputy Managing Director, Chukwuma Nweke; Group Head, Retail and Digital Banking, Shamsideen Fashola; Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communications, Alero Ladipo; and regulatory officials.

Running from September 2025 to May 2026, the nine-month campaign is set to engage new and existing savers while promoting long-term financial planning.

Speaking at the event, Nweke highlighted the crucial role of savings in national development.

“Saving in the life of a nation is very important, because they need to plan their lives in a manner to be able to meet future needs,” he said.

“At UBA, that’s all we’re known for — to provide an enabling environment for our customers and even non-customers to plan their lives and the lives of their loved ones.”

He explained that the UBA Supersavers Promo is designed not only to encourage financial discipline but also to offer participants tangible benefits that go beyond traditional banking services.

“We are not only encouraging our customers to save for the future but also providing them with the opportunity to win prizes and achieve goals,” he added.

“This helps the country and the economy, because there is more sustainable funding for infrastructure and lending.”

Fashola, while outlining the details of the promo, explained that it was first launched five years ago to incentivise saving habits and bring more Nigerians — especially those in underserved areas — into the banking system.

“People are willing to save, but how do you encourage them to save? Last year, we rewarded thousands of customers and gave out ₦150 million,” he said.

To qualify for the draws, customers need to maintain a minimum of ₦5,000 in their UBA Bumpa account or ₦10,000 in other types of savings accounts.

The more frequently customers save, the higher their chances of winning.

He added that the bank will be conducting activations across the country — in markets, bus parks, campuses, and rural communities — to engage Nigerians directly and encourage account openings.

Ladipo reiterated the promo’s alignment with UBA’s financial inclusion agenda.

“One of the reasons UBA has continued to do this draw over the last five years is about financial inclusion,” she said.

“We still have a lot of ground to cover to empower citizens in Nigeria around their own financial independence. This promo is one way to expose Nigerians to secure, modern banking methods.”
