UNIMED tuition fee report false, says VC Adejuyigbe, clarifying that only freshers’ fees were slightly adjusted amid economic realities

UNIMED tuition fee rumours circulating on social media have been dismissed as false by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe.

Addressing journalists in Akure on Monday, Adejuyigbe described reports of a tuition increase as mischievous and unfounded.

She said the university only adjusted the fees for newly admitted students to reflect current economic realities, while maintaining existing rates for returning students.

“There are a lot of incorrect narratives in some sections of the media on tuition at UNIMED,” she said. “We find these depictions by some fifth columnists as an attempt to discredit a rapidly growing institution.

“Let me set the records straight — the university did not increase fees across the board. We only adjusted the fees of freshers to give them the best in the face of the current economic realities.”

The Vice Chancellor emphasised that the institution’s fees remain transparent and accessible on its website, noting they are competitive and highly subsidised by the Ondo State Government.

Speaking on the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), she clarified that the university had verified 87 students for inclusion last year and continues to work closely with NELFUND to ensure their participation.

On the transfer of the UNIMED Teaching Hospital complex in Akure to the Federal University of Technology Akure Teaching Hospital, Adejuyigbe said the move was collaborative and beneficial.

“One of our branches was given over to assist them, and we still have our teaching hospital in Ondo,” she explained. “The agreement ensures our students have unhindered access to facilities, laboratories, and lecturers at the Akure complex.”
