University of Lagos Alumni Association to honour Justice Kekere-Ekun, John Momoh, and other national icons at its 55th anniversary celebration in Lagos

University of Lagos Alumni Association will on Friday, 17 October 2025, honour an esteemed list of national figures and alumni for their outstanding service to the university and the nation, as part of its 55th anniversary celebration.

In a statement released on Sunday by the association’s National Publicity Secretary, Funmi Falobi, it was announced that the event will take place at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Among the honourees are the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun; Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), Pro-Chancellor of UNILAG; Dr. John Momoh, Chairman of Channels Media Group; Chief Tunde Fanimokun, Life Director at Folawiyo Group; and elder statesman, Sir Kessington Adebutu.

Others include Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, Senate Majority Leader; Mrs Esther Didi Wilson-Jack, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation; Chief Bayo Ojo (SAN); HRM (Prof.) Epiphany Azinge, the Asagba of Asaba; energy executive Mr Kola Adesina; and Chief (Mrs.) Folasade Okoya, renowned industrialist.

The event will feature Vice President Kashim Shettima as the Special Guest of Honour, while Olor’ogun Dr. Sonny Folorunso Kuku, the Ogbeni-Oja of Ijebuland and a past awardee, will serve as Chairman of the occasion.

University of Lagos Alumni Association President Worldwide and Chief Host, IfeOluwa Oyedele, described the gathering as a “landmark celebration of excellence, camaraderie, and impactful contributions.”

“The event will bring together distinguished alumni, faculty members, and prominent figures to recognise individuals who have made significant contributions to the university’s growth and Nigeria’s development,” he said.

The prestigious ceremony will include the presentation of the Alumni Platinum Award, Distinguished Alumni Award, and the Lifetime Achievement Award, honouring both legacy and contemporary achievements.

Royal fathers, academic luminaries, captains of industry, and high-ranking government officials are expected to grace the gala, further reinforcing the influence and reach of the University of Lagos Alumni Association within Nigerian society.
