The Nigerian international opted for the procedure after weeks of medical consultations to address a persistent issue in his right knee that affected both availability and performance throughout the season.

Boniface confirmed the next phase of his recovery in a video shared on Snapchat on Sunday, showing him performing light leg stretches and walking with the aid of a support device under the supervision of a physiotherapist.

The 2025/26 campaign proved frustrating for Boniface, who failed to score in 11 Bundesliga appearances and registered only two assists during his loan spell at Werder Bremen from Bayer Leverkusen before injury cut his season short.

While medical experts initially advised immediate surgery, the 25-year-old sought additional opinions before undergoing the procedure earlier this month.

No specific timeline has been provided for his return to competitive action.

Boniface will now focus on regaining full fitness ahead of the next season, with long-term health remaining a priority.
