Victor Osimhen injury update as striker begins rehabilitation after surgery, with hopes rising for an early return for Galatasaray

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been discharged from hospital and has commenced rehabilitation following successful surgery on a fractured right forearm, raising cautious optimism over his recovery timeline.

The 27-year-old underwent a three-hour operation last Tuesday at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital in Istanbul after sustaining the injury during a UEFA Champions League round of 16 clash against Liverpool at Anfield.

The procedure was led by club doctor Op. Dr. Yener İnce after scans confirmed the fracture, which occurred following a mid-air collision with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté.

Despite the impact, Osimhen played on until halftime before being substituted.

In a notable show of determination, the forward opted to extend his hospital stay beyond initial medical advice to ensure closer monitoring and enhance his recovery prospects.

Turkish journalist Haluk Yürekli reported that Osimhen told club officials he preferred continued care to accelerate his return.

The decision has been viewed positively within Galatasaray, with officials interpreting it as a sign of his commitment and professionalism during a critical phase of the season.

Initial projections suggested a six to eight-week absence, but updated assessments indicate a potential recovery window of four to six weeks. The Victor Osimhen injury timeline could therefore allow an earlier-than-expected comeback, depending on rehabilitation progress.

The striker is now targeting a return for the high-stakes Istanbul derby against Fenerbahçe on April 26, although medical staff are expected to take a cautious approach to avoid any setback.

He is likely to wear a protective splint upon resuming action.

Osimhen’s absence is significant for Galatasaray, who currently top the Turkish Super Lig with 64 points, four clear of second-placed Fenerbahçe with a game in hand.

Before the injury, the Nigerian international had been in outstanding form, scoring 19 goals and providing seven assists in 29 appearances across all competitions.
