Wike slams opposition coalition in a fierce rebuke aimed at leaders of the recently formed anti-Tinubu alliance, dismissing them as a gang of failed and expired politicians.

Speaking in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory Minister made it clear he had no faith in the coalition’s ability to effect meaningful change.

The former Rivers State governor spared no one as he criticised the takeover of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) by opposition leaders. According to him, it was simply a desperate scramble by disgruntled men who had already failed Nigerians.

“David Mark said Nigerians are not happy and they want to rescue the country. But he was Senate President for eight years. Was Nigeria in paradise back then?” Wike questioned.

He took aim at Mark’s record, accusing him of failing to deliver a single project in his hometown of Otukpo. He also pointed out the loss suffered by Mark’s daughter in an election under the All Progressives Congress, suggesting that it reflected his waning influence.

Rotimi Amaechi, a former Minister of Transport, was not spared either. Wike accused him of saddling the nation with massive debt through foreign loans.

“Amaechi took Chinese loans and left us drowning in debt. And now you want to rescue Nigeria?” he asked, visibly incredulous.

Wike slams opposition coalition not just for its composition but also for what he termed a complete lack of credibility. He labelled it a self-serving alliance built around recycled figures with poor performance records.

The former Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika, also came under fire. Wike mocked the failed Air Nigeria project, describing it as an embarrassment rather than a national asset.

“What happened to Air Nigeria under Sirika? Was that a gift to Nigerians too?” he asked rhetorically, making his disdain unmistakably clear.

He then turned his sights on former Attorney General Abubakar Malami and ex-Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal, branding their public remarks and political legacies as underwhelming and ineffective.

“Malami wrote something I read today — shameful! He was AGF, what did he solve? Tambuwal was Speaker and governor. What exactly did he do to reduce Nigerian suffering?” Wike said in a tone loaded with sarcasm.

The harshest words were reserved for those he believes are returning to politics only out of personal grudges rather than patriotism. He claimed former Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi joined the ADC simply due to a personal fallout with his former ally, Senator Bukola Saraki.

“This is not about Nigeria,” he stated. “It is about individual ambition, and people should be honest about that.”

Still, Wike acknowledged that there is one party that could truly mount a challenge to President Tinubu’s administration in the future — the Peoples Democratic Party.

“The truth is, if PDP fixes itself, it’s the only party that can challenge Tinubu in 2027,” he said with measured optimism. “But it needs to put its house in order first.”

The minister’s speech is expected to stir further debate across political circles, particularly within the PDP, where internal struggles and defections continue to threaten the party’s cohesion.

With the ADC coalition drawing attention, Wike’s outburst serves as a direct message to opposition figures seeking to reposition themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.

His comments also solidify his own position as a blunt voice within Nigerian politics, unafraid to criticise allies and opponents alike.
