“Zinedine Zidane has signed as the new France coach until June 2030. The story has been confirmed as Zizou will be unveiled as the new head coach in the next days,” Romano wrote in a social media post.

The reported appointment would mark Zidane’s return to football management after leaving Real Madrid in 2021 following his second spell in charge of the Spanish club.

According to Romano, Zidane is expected to oversee France’s campaigns in the 2027 UEFA Nations League, Euro 2028 and the 2030 FIFA World Cup if the deal is formally confirmed.

The move would represent a long-anticipated homecoming for Zidane, who has repeatedly been linked with the France job since establishing himself as one of the most successful managers in European club football.

During his time at Real Madrid, Zidane achieved remarkable success, winning three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles from 2016 to 2018. He also guided the club to two La Liga titles and several other domestic and international honours.

A World Cup winner with France in 1998, Zidane has previously expressed his ambition to manage the national team, making him a natural candidate to replace Deschamps, who has led Les Bleus since 2012.

Deschamps’ future has been closely watched as France approaches the end of the 2026 World Cup cycle, with Zidane widely viewed as one of the leading figures capable of taking over the national team.

However, until an official announcement is made by the French Football Federation, the reported deal remains unconfirmed.
