Pentagon Lodge Collapse in Ebonyi State leaves no casualties as AE-FUNAI students were in lectures. Authorities urge affected students to report losses

Pentagon Lodge Collapse at Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ikwo (AE-FUNAI), sparked panic on Friday afternoon when part of the building gave way—yet miraculously, no lives were lost.

The three-storey structure, which accommodates several students, had shown warning signs prior to the incident. Witnesses confirmed that cracks were visible, prompting some students to evacuate in time.

According to the university’s Public Relations Officer, Elom Iyke Ubochi, the collapse occurred during lecture hours—a stroke of luck that likely prevented fatalities.

“From what I’ve heard so far, there’s no casualty,” he said. “Students were on campus for lectures. Sadly, some of their belongings were affected.”

Pentagon Lodge is a private off-campus hostel consisting of five blocks; only a portion of one block collapsed. Students who were out of town may face property losses, with reports suggesting many personal items were trapped in the rubble.

University authorities urged any affected students to contact the Dean of Student Affairs to document losses and seek support.
