Benue herders attack kills four, destroys homes in Tombu Council Ward, Logo LGA. Villagers search for missing farmers amid rising insecurity

Benue herders attack has left at least four people dead and properties destroyed in Tombu Council Ward, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State. The incident occurred on Monday, according to community leader Joseph Anawah.

He said suspected armed herders invaded the area around 3:00 p.m., setting fire to deserted settlements, including Tse Mku. Among the victims were Mr. Kaananfam Nyamikume, a resident of Tse Jigam village, and Mr. Mson from Guma LGA, who were killed while working on their farms. A local medicine seller and Mr. Saaondo Mundu Azaye of Tse Azaye were also confirmed dead.

On Tuesday, residents and youths of Ayilamo and neighbouring villages launched a search for missing persons. Two more bodies were discovered near Tse Uza settlement, while two other farmers remain unaccounted for.

Anawah alleged that the attackers were camped at Tse Ibor, Tse Ukpukuru in Anyibe, and other deserted communities within the Mbawien clan in Tombu Council Ward.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, DSP Udeme Edet, requested time to verify details but did not return calls at the time of filing this report.

The fresh Benue herders attack adds to the wave of insecurity in the state, leaving villagers fearful and uncertain. Residents are urging urgent government action to prevent further bloodshed and restore peace.
