Eid-ul-Mawlid public holiday Nigeria set for September 5, 2025, as FG urges peace, prayers, and unity in celebrating Prophet Muhammad’s birth

The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, an Eid-ul-Mawlid public holiday Nigeria, marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

The announcement came in a statement signed by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Congratulating Muslims in Nigeria and across the world, Ajani urged the faithful to emulate the Prophet’s virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion.

She noted that Eid-ul-Mawlid offers an opportunity to strengthen brotherhood, promote peaceful coexistence, and practice selfless service to humanity.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo also appealed to Nigerians of all faiths to use the celebration to pray for peace, security, and stability in the country. He emphasized that unity and lawfulness are vital for building a prosperous Nigeria.

Eid-ul-Mawlid is observed in the third month of the Islamic calendar (Rabi’ al-Awwal) and commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

In Nigeria, the celebration is marked with prayers, lectures, processions, and acts of charity, and is recognized as a national public holiday.
