Dozens of men, women, and children staged a mass protest on Wednesday, blocking the Sokoto–Lagos trunk A highway, demanding urgent security intervention.

Umar Yabo, member representing Yabo-Shagari federal constituency, warned that the growing frustration among victims could trigger ethnic conflict.

“Some victims are considering retaliatory actions against Fulani communities, which could escalate dangerously,” he said.

Yabo urged both state and federal governments to deploy security forces and strengthen intelligence to flush out criminal elements. He also called on humanitarian agencies to provide immediate relief to displaced families.

In response, Sokoto State Deputy Governor Idris Gobir visited Wanke village with a combined security team, finding it deserted after bandits fled.

Gobir expressed sympathy for displaced residents and confirmed plans to establish a military camp to curb bandit activities. He also announced the donation of three trucks of grain to assist victims.
