ADC Kogi crisis deepens as members resist alleged leadership hijack, reaffirming loyalty to Leke Abejide and warning of unrest

ADC Kogi crisis has intensified as a faction of the African Democratic Congress in the state raised alarm over an alleged plot to hijack the party’s leadership.

Addressing journalists in Kabba, the group under the aegis of Concerned Members of the ADC accused “powerful individuals” of plotting an unconstitutional takeover.

The spokesperson, Usman Lukman, insisted that the move would be firmly resisted through legal and constitutional means.

“Credible intelligence available to us indicates that certain individuals, unknown to our structures and alien to our operations, are plotting to forcefully take over the leadership of the ADC in Kogi State,” Lukman said.

He argued that the Nigerian Constitution protects freedom of association, but does not permit unlawful toppling of party structures. He likened the plot to the alleged destruction of the PDP, warning that ADC would not suffer the same fate.

The group reaffirmed loyalty to Hon. Elder Leke Abejide, describing him as the undisputed leader of the party in the state. It dismissed those allegedly behind the crisis as “political opportunists and strange bedfellows” without genuine commitment to the ADC.

Calling on security agencies to intervene, the group said the plot posed a serious threat to peace and stability in Kogi. “Thousands of our members are already agitated and determined to resist any attempt by frustrated political wanderers to destabilize our party,” Lukman warned.

The statement further advised security agencies not to recognize or provide security cover for any ADC meetings not sanctioned by Abejide or the constitutionally recognized State Chairman.

It described such gatherings as “illegal, illegitimate, and a calculated attempt to breach the peace.”

With the ADC already grappling with leadership attrition at the national level, the unfolding crisis in Kogi reflects a wider struggle for control within the party.
