Arne Slot praises Everton for their touching show of respect after the tragic death of Liverpool’s Diogo Jota.

The Liverpool manager warmly acknowledged Everton’s compassionate response to Jota’s passing, which transcended the usual fierce rivalry between the Merseyside clubs.

Jota, who died in a car accident at just 28, had scored his final goal in Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Everton earlier this year.

Slot emphasised the importance of respect during such difficult times.

“They showed their respect, and in these moments, it is so nice to see that in tragedies, the rivalry is still there, but the respect to both is still there,” Slot said.

Liverpool have been undergoing a period of transformation this season under Slot’s guidance.

Despite a record £450 million spend on new players, including Alexander Isak, the team’s performances have been inconsistent but ultimately successful, with victories in all five Premier League and Champions League games so far.

Slot expressed confidence in his squad’s ability to handle the intense atmosphere of the Merseyside derby, especially the new players familiar with high-stakes matches.

“The focus should be on the rivalry, but it should also be on what we need to do to win the game,” he added.
