Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Egyptian forward hit out at the post, which contrasted black-and-white images of Núñez and Díaz with coloured photos of Liverpool’s blockbuster new arrivals Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak.

Liverpool dominated headlines in the summer transfer market, spending a Premier League-record £446 million.

The spree included breaking the British transfer record with the £125m signing of Sweden striker Isak from Newcastle, only weeks after securing Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for £116m.

Despite the excitement, the fan account @AnfieldEdition sparked controversy by belittling the contributions of Núñez and Díaz.

Núñez left for Al-Hilal in a €53m (£46m) move after three mixed seasons at Anfield, while Díaz joined Bayern Munich for £65.5m following a strong spell under Arne Slot.

Liverpool’s record-breaking window also saw Hugo Ekitike (£79m) and Jeremie Frimpong (£29.5m) arrive to cover for Diogo Jota, who tragically died in a crash, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who joined Real Madrid.

Factoring in sales worth £228.1m, the Reds still ended as the league’s biggest spenders.

Salah’s intervention, however, served as a reminder that respect for former players remains vital even as Liverpool usher in a new era.
