Fenerbahce and Galatasaray are in a fierce battle to sign Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman from Atalanta before the Turkish transfer window closes on September 12

Turkish Super Lig heavyweights Fenerbahce and Galatasaray are locked in a fierce transfer battle for Nigerian international winger Ademola Lookman, with just days left before the Turkish transfer window closes on September 12.

The two Istanbul giants are pushing aggressively to secure Lookman’s signature from Serie A side Atalanta, following the closure of the top European leagues’ transfer windows on September 2.

According to reports from Turkish media, Galatasaray are particularly keen, dreaming of forming an all-Nigerian strike force by pairing Ademola Lookman with Victor Osimhen, should the latter join in a future window.

The club is said to have proposed a deal worth €55 million, though Atalanta have yet to receive a formal bid of that magnitude.

“Lookman has emerged as Galatasaray’s latest top target after failed pursuits of Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Ilkay Gündoğan.”

Not to be outdone, Fenerbahce have reportedly made a four-year offer worth €6 million per season in wages to the 27-year-old forward, according to transfer insider Orazio Accomando.

Fenerbahce see Lookman as a potential game-changer as they aim to strengthen their squad for domestic and European competition.

Despite the interest, Atalanta are holding firm on their valuation.

The Serie A club want over €50 million for a permanent transfer and are not open to loans or structured deals.

Lookman has become unsettled at the club, having trained alone in protest after Atalanta rejected an earlier offer from Inter Milan.

Since joining Atalanta, Ademola Lookman has consistently delivered in Serie A, showcasing pace, directness, and a clinical edge that have made him a top Nigerian export in Europe.

His performances at AFCON 2023, where Nigeria finished as runners-up, further enhanced his reputation as a dynamic winger who can thrive under pressure.

With the Turkish transfer window set to close on September 12, time is running out for Fenerbahce and Galatasaray to make a breakthrough.

If no agreement is reached before the deadline, Lookman is expected to remain in Bergamo and potentially revisit his options in the January transfer window.
