Young Nigerian commercial pilot, Mohammed Sani, earns FAA licence at 18 after completing rigorous US aviation training in just 10 months

Young Nigerian commercial pilot Mohammed Aminu Sani has earned international recognition after securing a United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Commercial Multi-Engine Pilot Licence at just 18 years of age.

Sani, who completed his training at Phoenix East Aviation (PEA) in Daytona Beach, Florida, finished the intensive programme in just 10 months — a feat that included zero checkride failures, an achievement rare even among experienced aviation trainees.

Speaking after receiving his licence, Sani said,

“Becoming a pilot has always been my childhood dream, and today I am proud to say I’m living that dream and enjoying every step of the journey. It’s been an incredible experience filled with hard work, discipline and passion.”

Born and raised in Abuja, Sani began his academic journey at Al-Hidaayah Academy before graduating with Distinction in Economics Foundation from The Regent College Abuja.

His academic discipline provided the ideal foundation for the rigorous demands of aviation training abroad.

At Phoenix East Aviation — one of the world’s top FAA Part 141 flight schools — Sani trained under various demanding conditions including night flights, low visibility navigation, and cross-country missions.

He accumulated over 50 flight hours on multi-engine aircraft like the PA-34-200 Seneca and more than 30 hours of cross-country flight time.

Now holding a Commercial Pilot Licence (AMEL), Sani’s accomplishment symbolises not only technical excellence but also the power of youthful ambition.

His story sends a compelling message to Nigeria’s youth: that age is no barrier to success, and global milestones are within reach through focus and resilience.

At a time when many young Nigerians are in search of hope and direction, Sani’s journey offers inspiration rooted in determination and discipline.

He now sets his sights on joining a leading international airline, with aspirations to represent Nigeria proudly among the world’s elite aviators.
