Oyo State Government reaffirms its commitment to workers’ welfare through industrial visits and dialogue with major companies to ensure fair labour practices

Oyo State Government has reaffirmed its strong commitment to the welfare and protection of workers as part of its ongoing industry-friendly policies across the state.

This was made known by the Commissioner for Investment, Trade, Cooperatives and Industry, Adebisi Adeniyi, during a sensitisation visit to the Nigerian Breweries and the Nigerian Bottling Company (Coca-Cola).

A statement issued on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, explained that the visit formed part of a routine exercise by the Industrial Crisis Management Committee, established by Governor ‘Seyi Makinde, to sustain harmony between employers and employees in Oyo State.

Represented by the Director of Industry, Mrs Majeedat Olanrewaju, Adeniyi noted that the governor had charged the committee to promote cordial relations within workplaces and bridge welfare gaps between permanent and contract staff.

“This committee is committed to ensuring that disparities in welfare conditions are addressed in order to maintain a worker-friendly and productive environment in Oyo State,” the statement read.

During meetings with the management teams and labour leaders of both companies, Adeniyi identified safety, welfare, and industrial peace as the committee’s main focus areas.

He also urged NBC to expand its restaurant facilities to improve hygiene and create a more conducive dining space for staff.

At the Nigerian Breweries, Brewery Manager Seun Akinwale and Corporate Affairs Manager, West and Midwest, Danjuma John-Ekele, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to staff safety and fair remuneration for both permanent and outsourced employees.

Union leaders — Comrade Festus Olubiyo of Nigerian Breweries and Comrade Lanbe Lukman of NBC — applauded the positive relationship between their members and the management, describing it as a model for other organisations.

Highlights of the visit included inspections of the staff restaurants, changing rooms, production lines, and restrooms to assess working conditions.

In their responses, Mrs Ifeoma Okoye, Corporate Affairs Manager, and Mr Andrew Barnabas, Plant Manager at NBC, expressed their readiness to cooperate fully with the state government in implementing policies that promote trade, safety, and employee welfare.

The Oyo State Government’s sustained engagement with private sector players reflects its broader goal of creating a balanced, equitable, and productive industrial environment across the state.
