During an emergency meeting held on Thursday in Ibadan, hundreds of members from the eleven electoral wards of the local government gathered to voice their opposition to the continuation of Mr Olusola Tokunbo Adekanbi as acting chairman.

The members unanimously urged the acting chairman and his team to step aside to allow Jelili Asukuna, the elected chairman, and other officially recognised executives to occupy their rightful positions.

Speaking to journalists, party chieftain Adekunle Abass Akande, who moved the motion, said the decision aimed to address the challenges confronting the party locally.

He emphasised that leadership must reflect legitimacy and national recognition.

“We want the elected executives to occupy their rightful positions. Those currently ruling are not authentic. The acting chairman must step aside,” Akande said.

“We resolved that all authentic executives come into their positions. There is no crisis here, only a restoration of order.”

Remi Ajanaku, a former leader of the Ibadan North West legislative arm, explained that the move was necessary to restore sanity within the party.

He cited irregularities under the acting leadership and stressed the need for compliance with proper party structures.

“Our resolution today is to have the acting chairman step aside and allow the authentic chairman to take over. This is to correct illegal practices and ensure the party functions properly,” Ajanaku said.
