Funke Akindele’s Behind The Scenes grosses N200m in Nigeria, £42,000 in UK, marking biggest Nollywood opening weekend of 2025

Filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele has celebrated the record-breaking success of her film Behind The Scenes, which raked in over N200 million in Nigerian cinemas and £42,000 in the UK and Ireland during its opening weekend.

Released on December 12, the film’s reception has positioned it as the biggest Nollywood opening of 2025.

Akindele took to social media to express her gratitude to fans, highlighting the milestone as a major achievement for Nigerian cinema.

“We’re showing up and not giving up! Big ups, Naija! Huge thank you for coming out to support Behind The Scenes at the cinemas! We broke another record, the biggest opening in 2025!” she wrote.

Akindele also acknowledged her UK and Ireland audience, noting their contribution to the film’s international success.

“A massive shoutout to our UK and Ireland fans, you guys made it the biggest Nollywood opening weekend EVER! Behind The Scenes is still showing in cinemas nationwide and select Odeon Cinemas in the UK & Ireland. It’s a MUST WATCH for family and friends,” she added.

The movie has received widespread acclaim, with fans praising its storytelling, performances, and production quality.
