Adamawa police launch investigation after 17-year-old boy reportedly suffers acid attack in Yola South Local Government Area

The Adamawa State Police Command has launched an investigation following an alleged acid attack on a 17-year-old boy, Walid Mohammed, in Yola South Local Government Area.

The incident occurred on January 14, 2026, at Shagari Quarters, where the victim was reportedly attacked while walking to a mosque.

Police spokesman SP Suleiman Nguroje confirmed that the boy ran to the Shagari Division Headquarters in distress, stating he had been sprayed with a substance suspected to be acidic by a local resident identified as Idris Hamza.

Following the report, Walid was immediately taken to hospital and is currently receiving medical care.

The alleged perpetrator has been detained, Nguroje said.

Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case to ensure a thorough inquiry into the attack.

Authorities have pledged to bring the responsible parties to justice while providing support for the victim.
