Kwara Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi charges 67 Christian pilgrims on discipline and conduct ahead of the 2026 Holy Land pilgrimage

Kwara State Deputy Governor, Kayode Alabi, on Thursday in Ilorin, urged 67 Christian intending pilgrims to conduct themselves responsibly and represent the state and Nigeria positively during the 2026 pilgrimage in the Holy Land.

Alabi, who was represented by the Senior Special Adviser on Religion (Christian Matters), Rev. Timothy Akangbe, spoke at a seminar organised by the Kwara State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board.

The seminar, themed “Pilgrimage as a Tool for Spiritual Development,” was held on Wednesday at the ECWA Church Chapel, Challenge Road, Ilorin.

Through his aide, Alabi stressed that the pilgrims must act as ambassadors of Kwara State and Nigeria, ensuring their behaviour reflects national values and integrity.

He also advised the pilgrims to prepare adequately for the journey, including packing appropriate clothing and materials to cope with the cold weather in Jordan and Israel.

Evangelist Prof. Timothy Opoola, Chairman of the Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, corroborated the deputy governor’s guidance, advising strict adherence to rules in both Nigeria and host countries.

He also reminded the pilgrims to adjust to the different food and cultural environment in the Holy Land.

Opoola confirmed that 67 pilgrims would be airlifted for the 2026 pilgrimage.

Officials from the National Orientation Agency, Department of State Services, Immigration Service, and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency provided orientation to prepare the pilgrims for the journey.

The seminar concluded with prayers for a safe and hitch-free pilgrimage for all intending travellers.
