Edo police doctor gun arrest sees Dr. Kingsley Dele detained for illegal firearm possession amid crackdown on illicit weapons

Dr. Kingsley Dele of Obaretin community has been arrested by the Edo State Police Command for illegal possession of a firearm, the command confirmed on Thursday.

Police Public Relations Officer ASP Eno Ikoedem said the arrest was made on February 29 by operatives of the Command Intelligence and Rapid Response Squad, acting on actionable intelligence.

One Beretta pistol was reportedly recovered from the suspect, the PPRO added.

The arrest is part of a strategic offensive led by Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika to curb the circulation of illicit firearms, which often fuel violent crimes in communities across Edo State.

“The Command views the illegal possession of firearms, regardless of the status or profession of those involved, as a grave threat to public peace,” ASP Ikoedem said.

The doctor will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.

The CP reassured residents that the command remains vigilant and called on the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement through timely information sharing.

Recent reports by Daily Post indicate that Edo has witnessed a surge in kidnapping incidents, prompting some residents to take measures for self-defense.
