Five students travelling from Gombe State to Lagos in search of Industrial Training (IT) placements have been killed in a road crash involving a GUO Logistics truck along the Ijebu-Epe Road.

The incident occurred on Wednesday when the truck allegedly veered from its lane and collided with a bus travelling in the opposite direction.

The deceased were identified as Isiyaku Sa’idu, Maigana Mohammed (also known as Abbati), Anas Abubakar (the driver), Zaiyanu Bajoga and Abubakar Ibrahim.

In a statement, the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, described the deaths as a devastating loss of young Nigerians seeking opportunities to complete their training.

Afeez raised concerns over the alleged conduct of GUO Logistics representatives at the scene, claiming that some appeared more focused on protecting the company’s image than assisting the victims. He alleged that one staff member attempted to remove the company’s name from the truck.

He also stated that, as of the time of his statement, there had been no confirmation that GUO Logistics had contacted the families of the deceased or adequately addressed the medical needs of injured victims still receiving treatment.

NANS called for a thorough investigation into the crash and demanded accountability from the company.
