Osun Amotekun headquarters attack leaves officers injured as armed mob storms Egbedore command and steals firearms during violent clash

The Osun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, has confirmed a violent attack on its Egbedore Local Government Command headquarters in Awo, leaving several personnel injured and firearms stolen during a chaotic and forceful assault.

The Osun Amotekun headquarters attack occurred on Monday evening, according to a statement issued on Tuesday by the agency’s spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu Abass, who described the incident as a serious breach of security at the command facility.

Preliminary findings indicated that the unrest stemmed from a dispute linked to a football-related altercation that escalated rapidly into violence involving armed individuals.

According to the agency, the situation began around 8:00 p.m. when a civilian reportedly sought refuge at the Amotekun office after being pursued by suspected hoodlums.

The individual was allegedly involved in a disagreement connected to a football argument the previous day.

Amotekun personnel on duty initially intervened to protect the victim and prevent further harm, a move that temporarily de-escalated the situation.

However, the situation deteriorated when the assailants regrouped and returned in larger numbers, launching what officials described as a more intense and coordinated attack on the command headquarters.

The attackers, armed with machetes and other dangerous weapons, reportedly overpowered security arrangements, vandalised parts of the facility and injured personnel during the renewed assault.

In the course of the attack, firearms belonging to the command were allegedly stolen before security operatives were able to regain control and restore order.

The agency confirmed that five suspects were arrested at the scene and subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.

Authorities have urged residents to remain calm while cooperating with security agencies by providing credible information that could lead to the arrest of other suspects still at large.

Amotekun reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, assuring the public that efforts are ongoing to strengthen security operations across Osun State following the violent incident.
